Whenever offered premium chocolates and candies, confectionery lovers all over the world find the temptation difficult to resist. The allure originates in part from the attention paid by the producers of first-class confectionery to sophisticated packaging design. In this context, a perfect film wrapper with a seal-and-peel label guarantees ideal packaging that both protects the product and keeps it fresh. An elegant, tight and attractive thin wrapper with practically imperceptible seams is therefore a major factor in creating shelf appeal and ensuring that the product makes a strong first impression. The overlapped film is sealed by a label with a tab for convenient peel opening. All the product information is easy to read, and unwrapping is especially simple. For an international producer of premium chocolates and candies, the film packaging machine specialist Kallfass joined forces with HERMA’s Labelling Machines division to develop a superbly coordinated end-to-end solution.
Almost-wear-free operation
“Not only the side sealer Universa 500 Servo used for this specific solution, but all Kallfass systems in service worldwide are characterized by extremely high machine availability. Among other things, this trait is attributable to almost wear-free operation and a very simple, intuitive user interface,” explains Lars Kallfass, the authorised officer of the company headquartered in Nürtingen, southwest Germany. Special ring nozzles in the Compact 650 S shrink tunnel produce a highly uniform temperature profile which delivers outstanding results even with extremely thin films – while protecting the sensitive candies from any harm. No more than three clicks
With this background, the HERMA labelling machine 652C was selected for this project to take care of the downstream precision top and bottom labelling of the candy boxes. The sealing label is generally applied to the bottom, and promotional labels are typically applied to the top. Depending on requirements, the two functions can be performed independently. Thanks to innovative quick-change systems and touchscreens, the two integrated HERMA 500 labellers facilitate rapid job setup. The menu structure is designed in such a way that no more than three clicks are needed to reach the desired menu item. Favourite parameter settings can be displayed directly on the start screen. The very latest communication interfaces offer unequaled connectivity. A hot-foil printer can easily be integrated for printing variable data, such as a best-before date, on the sealing label. Designed to process as many as 250 products a minute, the machine also offers sufficient reserve capacity. The HERMA top and bottom labeller 652C has all the features of a compact and versatile solution – well conceived down to the last detail – and true to the Kallfass slogan ‘Results count’.
