Laser-active labelling

Picture:
In the interests of lightning-fast, crystal-clear and especially economical labelling, HERMA and KBA-Metronic have joined forces to develop a system comprising labels, an applicator and a laser unit.

26. August 2009

HERMA joins forces with KBA-Metronic:
Economical integrated solution comprising labels, applicator and laser / Ideal for all in-process inscriptions / No consumables required / Sharp lettering, images or codes / Non-smudge and scratchproof results

A new type of laser-active label is now giving rise to an especially economical and reliable labelling method. In conjunction with the printing and coding technology experts of KBA-Metronic, self-adhesive solutions specialist HERMA is presenting a unique coordinated system at the Fachpack trade fair (HERMA: hall 3, booth 109; KBA-Metronic: hall 3, booth 207 and hall 4, booth 229). The new system comprises labels, a label applicator and a laser unit. It is a low-maintenance, contactless solution that demonstrably reduces unnecessary idle times. Moreover, no additional consumables are required. Since printing takes place directly at the dispensing edge, even the last label on the roll can be inscribed. The system is therefore ideal for final marking applications, such as the printing of batch information or shipping and internal logistics data.

Special finish
The system operates with the 002-type laser-active labels produced by HERMA. The labels' special finish allows the KBA-Metronic K-1000 CO2 laser to apply black inscriptions in the designated place. The printed image is always very sharp, whether plain text, a graphic and/or a code. Since the laser does not remove any material, no smudgeable particles arise and the label is not damaged at all. It produces a non-smudge and scratch-resistant printed impression. The labels' resilience makes them suitable for use in moist applications as well. Both paper labels and labels laminated with OPP film are available. Thanks to the variety of adhesive options, laser-active labels can be configured for a broad array of applications. The maximum printing area is 250 x 250 mm.

High speeds
In combination with the KBA-Metronic K-1000 CO2 laser, the HERMA 400 high-speed labeller delivers high in-process printing speeds. The HERMA 400 automatically synchronises the labelling and product speeds with its high-performance servo drive. Once the system, complete with coordinated modules, has been commissioned, moreover, no further equipment modifications are required, even if different labels or label formats are used from time to time. By way of an option, the system can also be fitted with camera technology for track & trace purposes.
