HERMA innovation showcased at Fachpack 2009:
First motorised winding system for HERMA 400 labeller / Allows processing of XXL label rolls up to 600 mm diameter / Winder integrated in ultra-flat design / Ideal for installation in packaging lines and rotary machines

The HERMA 400 labeller can now apply labels from up to 600 mm diameter XXL rolls and, therefore, process more labels before the roll needs to be changed. At the Fachpack trade fair (Nuremberg / Germany), HERMA is for the first time presenting its highly successful model with a motorised unwinding and rewinding system (hall 3, booth 109). The secret lies in a special, ultraflat design that incorporates the brushless servomotors, gear unit, power pack and complete intelligent control system. The installation depth of the HERMA 400, with or without the motorised winding system, is just 58 mm.

Unique benefit
The HERMA 400 is the world's most compact labeller in its performance class, and the new version retains the original's unique strength: its simple integration in existing lines. This benefit is particularly apparent when the labeller is installed in packaging lines or rotary machines, as used for applying wraparound labels to bottles, for example. Only very restricted installation space is usually available, especially when machine operators wish to retrofit more intelligent and faster labellers. In addition, packaging lines and rotary machines achieve very high throughputs and consume vast quantities of labels. Many users will therefore welcome this opportunity to use XXL rolls.

Isolated inert mass
In order to ensure that the labels are dispensed with high precision despite the considerable inert mass of the extralarge rolls, HERMA has also enhanced the intelligence of the control. It measures the motion of the pendulum continuously and dynamically. The speed of the unwind and rewind units is thus constantly adjusted to sustain a motion that is as consistent as possible. As a consequence, the unwinding and rewinding of the label web no longer exerts an undesirable influence on the start-stop operation of the central drive unit at the dispensing beak. The outcome is maximum label positioning accuracy, even at high production speeds.
